Definition and scope

We invite all database researchers and other people from related fields to submit their work (Demos / Applications) to the 30th Brazilian Symposium on Database (SBBD Demo Session), to be held in Petropolis, State of Rio de Janeiro, October 13-16 , 2015. The 30th Edition of SBBD is promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), is considered the official event of the database area and is the largest database event of Latin America. At the symposium, it will be presented and discussed research findings related to the latest advances in database area, bringing together researchers, students and professionals from Brazil and abroad. In addition to technical sessions, the symposium also includes invited lectures and tutorials presented by leading researchers from the national and international community.

Demo session of SBBD 2015

The SBBD 2015’s Demo session is a suitable forum for the exchange of experiences and for the presentation of solutions among researchers, developers and practitioners from the academy and industry, who are interested in discussing functional and practical solutions to interesting problems and/or non-trivial solutions involving technologies for managing data and information. Topics of interest are the same as those found in the main SBBD session.

Submission instructions

Authors should submit a paper up to 6 pages, including figures and references describing the main features of their demos/applications. Each article will be reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee with respec to originality, practical issue, technical contribution and presentation. Together with the submitted manuscript, authors are strongly encouraged to provide a link to a demo video (screencast) of up to 5 minutes related to their demo/application. This video will be considered in the review process. Articles can be written in Portuguese or English and must be formatted according to the SBC's submission format. In addition, they must be in the PDF format; since other formats will not be accepted. The link to the video demonstration or the online version of the demo must be informed at the bottom of the first page of the article (when it is initially cited). The final acceptance of the article is conditional upon the registration of at least one author in the SBBD to present the work. Accepted papers will be published in the Annals of SBBD 2015 Demos.

Presentationd and awards

Demos session will be held in two time periods during the SBBD 2015, as follows:

1) Article presentation during a technical session.

2) Practical presentation to demonstrate the authors’ demo/application. For this presentation, authors must also provide a poster of size 0.70 mx 1:00 m (width x height), which should include the following information:

a) Software name;

b) Names and affiliations of the authors;

c) Information about funding obtained for the software construction, if applicable;

d) E-mail and URL for further information;

e) Abstract;

f) Key features / functionality;

g) Main references.

It is required the presence of at least one of the authors of the demo/application who must be at the symposium to perform his/her presentation.

The practical and demonstrative presentations of demos/applications will be reanalyzed by an evaluation committee with respect to their contribution, functionality, usability and suitability to its description. The results of the two evaluations will be used by the refereed committee to determine the Best Demo Award of SBBD 2015.

It is required that authors use their own equipment (notebooks) during the sessions. A proper equipment can be requested in advance to the coordination of the SBBD's Demos session, if necessary.
