CENPES (Leopold Américo Miguez de Mello Research, Development and Innovation Center) is the Petrobras unit responsible for research and development (R&D) and company activities. It is currently one of the largest research complexes applied to the energy industry in the world. It was created on December 4, 1963, in Praia Vermelha and its mission is to provide and anticipate technological solutions with a vision of innovation and sustainability for the company. Due to Petrobras' pioneering spirit in the field of deep water exploration, CENPES was vitally important in creating technology that was not available to be acquired anywhere in the world. It has a team of highly qualified specialists to seek solutions aimed at increasing value for the company by reducing production costs and reducing impacts on the environment.
